Silas Mühle
Hey, my name is Silas Mühle. I am a nineteen year old professional sailor from Hamburg, Germany. A year ago I had a stroke of fate and my life was in danger. Today I am able to sail again and have great ambitions. This website tells my story.
My story
In 2020 I was hit by a stroke of fate, which changed my life. I suffered a high voltage shock and only survived with luck.
The rescue team found me almost unconscious by the road and took me to the hospital. It wasn’t clear if I was going to make it. The doctors then fought for 8 hours in the emergency surgery, trying to save everything they could. 12 more operations and 2 months in the hospital followed, some of them in the intensive care unit with ventilators.
It was the hardest time in my life and I actually thought I would never be able to even walk again. From one moment to the next, everything was different. However I couldn’t just give up on my dreams and friends and family gave me the strength I didn’t have. Day by day. Week by week. As soon as it was possible I started training again. Even though I wasn’t sure what I could achieve in my condition I worked every day towards an uncertain goal. After so much grief, hard work, intense pain, and much hope I have achieved something that was unthinkable for me — I am sailing again and I have bigger goals than ever before.
My motivation
Sailing has always been my greatest passion. After my accident in 2020, I thought for months that I would never again be able to conquer the wind with my sails. Fortunately I was wrong. I did not give up my dream and forced myself to continue. This has paid off and I have set myself new sporting goals. However my biggest goal will always be to spread my story to people. My fate has shown me how precious life is and that you can achieve almost anything if you put your mind to it. I would be very happy if a story like mine could inspire others to do the same. This is the message I want to embody through my sport.
